Cookbook author Susie Quick and Honest Farm ‘Pure Kentucky’ Market offers Wellness Cooking classes to help you make your resolution for a healthier life come true.
Every New Year’s Eve I have a tradition. I sit down with a note pad and list the goals I have for the next year. Putting my thoughts to paper helps me focus on what’s important to me. It’s always interesting to look back on the last year and see how many items I can check off. I’m pretty happy if I can check off half my list.
Number one this year is ‘Achieve more goals.’ But the ‘evergreen’ item I’ve listed most often is: Eat healthier — lose 10 pounds!
Probably 99% of us make that same New Year’s resolution. The good news is you don’t have to join Jenny Craig, buy special foods (with lots of sodium and unnatural additives), or eat Lean Cuisine entrees for lunch and dinner to lose weight. Focusing instead on simple, healthy, and delicious foods you can make for yourself and your family will help you reach your goals. And it may even help you change your overall lifestyle to a healthier one as well.
‘Wellness Cooking 101” will teach you how a diet filled with colorful, unprocessed, and naturally delicious foods can help you feel more energetic and inspired to make long-term changes to improve your health and well being.
In January, we’re offering two ‘Wellness’ demonstration classes with recipes and information to help you kick start those resolutions.
The classes will cover some wellness cooking basics including creating main course salads with homemade vinaigrette, and quick dishes focusing on ‘power vegetables’ to help pump up the nutrients and fiber in your diet. In addition, we’ll provide tips and recipes for the protein side of your plate. Cost of the class is $30. per person and includes the evening’s meal and materials.
Classes will be taught by Susie Quick, cookbook author and former food and nutrition editor for publications such as Real Simple, Organic Style, Health, and Glamour. Quick has appeared as a food and health expert on CNN, The Today Show, Good Morning America, and The Food Network. Beginning January14, 2008, Quick will be cooking healthy dishes and offering wellness tips every Monday on WLEX-18 @ 12:30.
So whether you’re on a quest for serious weight loss or you just want to learn to prepare delicious foods dishes for more energy and pleasure, “Cooking Wellness 101” will provide the cooking wisdom to help you make healthier choices when buying and cooking food.
You will receive easy to follow nutritional guidance, simple recipes, and important tips to help you develop a healthy eating style for weight loss, disease prevention and, most of all, enjoyment!
Honest Farm will also be offering subscriptions for weekly farm baskets where attendees can sign up. There are a limited amount of subscriptions available so let us know if you’d like additional information.
The class takes place Wednesdays, January 16, and January 23, 2008 at 6 pm at Honest Farm ‘Pure Kentucky’ Market, 208 Dudley Street, Midway, KY 40347. For more information or to make a reservation, call Honest Farm Market at (859) 846-4155 or email at .

Susie,
Thanks so much for hosting this event. What fun! The food was delicious and I am eager to try these recipes at home.
I hope you’ll do more classes like this!
